JT15D engines have a proven track record in meeting customers’ expectations in performance, reliability, durability, fuel consumption and environmental friendliness. Seventeen JT15D models have currently been produced under 3 series (JT15D-1, JT15D-4 and JT15D-5) ranging in thrust from 2,200 to 3,400 pounds.
The JT15D is a two-spool engine with only six rotating components, a single-stage high pressure centrifugal compressor driven by a single-stage high pressure turbine and a single-stage low pressure turbine driving a robust fan with wide-chord blades and compressor boost stage. A high efficiency reverse-flow combustor ensures low emissions and fuel consumption. The success of the engine with respect to its impressive durability level of higher than 10,000 hours between overhauls was a major reason for selecting this same core to power the PW901A APU on the Boeing 747-400. In fact, the JT15D-based PW901A has also become the benchmark in the APU industry for durability and reliability.
